Most intelligent transport system (ITS) technologies available nowadays target to minimize inter vehicular crashes. On the other hand, the single vehicle, run-off-road (RoR) crashes in roads causes more than half fatalities in roadsides. Therefore, we propose vehicle to barrier (V2B) communication scheme which focuses on single vehicle crashes. V2B is introduced as a communication technology between moving vehicles and roadside barriers. The main objective of this connectivity is to mitigate fatalities during single-vehicle crashes.
For establishing reliable communication in V2B we prepare a testbed in Midwest Roadside Safety Facility (MwRSF). In this testbed, we install several antennas in vehicle and barrier for the V2B communication.
Overall V2B Setup
At the rooftop of the crash vehicle, we install the vehicle antenna. This antenna is connected with USRP E312 which is placed inside the crash vehicle. With E312 we also collect acceleration and GPS data.
V2B Vehicle Setup
The Radio Inside Crash Vehicle.
On the barrier, we install several antennas. These antennas are connected with USRP B200/210.
V2B Barrier Setup
We also install several cameras to observe the overall vehicular crash on the barrier.
