Time Synchronization for Sustainable Wireless Networks

CFOSynt: Carrier Frequency Offset Assisted Clock Syntonization for Wireless Sensor Networks

Overview

In this project, a timestamp-free syntonization technique, CFOSynt, is designed utilizing carrier frequency offset (CFO). This work was published in IEEE INFOCOM 2017 and presented at IEEE INFOCOM 2017 demo session

Testbed Design

A testbed was designed to enable scalable ground-truth measurement of clock frequencies and CFO. A detailed description can be found in the IEEE INFOCOM 2017 demo

Key components of this testbed include:

  1. WizziMote, TI CC430-based sensor node.
  2. Keysight N9912A spectrum analyzer: for carrier frequency and RF clock measurement.
  3. Ettus OctoClock clock distribution module: for scalable clock skew measurement.
  4. Tektronix MSO3000 oscilloscope: for clock signal measurement.

Experiment Design

1. Validation experiment

We validate the idea of CFOSynt through ground-truth measurements and analyses using our testbed. For detailed descriptions of the experiments, please refer to the INFOCOM paper.

2. Evaluation experiment
